Lesson 5.2 will also cover Factors and Zeros with regards to solving a quadratic. The difference between these lessons is the following.
3.4 Factored Form of a Quadratic 
  • Factors help find x-intercepts (we won’t practice how to factor in this lesson)
  • Briefly mention x-intercept is called a “zero”, or root.
  • Finding the axis of symmetry (half way between -intercepts).
  • Finding the vertex.
  • Sketching the graph.
5.2 Factors and Zeros
  • Factoring quadratics (both a=1 and a is not 1)
  • Focus is on solving equations.
  • Connection between factors – zeros – roots – x-intercepts. (review)
  • Multiplicity (will help with higher order polynomials)
  • Fundamental Theorem of Algebra (official definition)
